I decided to stop in Altamura on my way to Basilicata because I’d heard of Pasticceria delle Monache. The cloistered nuns of the convent make delicious sweets called Sospiri, or ‘sighs.’ I was disappointed not see the nuns in the shop, but I shouldn’t have been — they are cloistered, so of course they don’t work with the public! All their work is in the pasticceria lab.
Absolutely delicious. Isaac loved it too. Definitely a foodie stop.

Finally arrived in the small town of Bernalda, my home base for the next ten days. I love this terrace and the white buildings!
