Hotel La Posta — also known as the Albergo Posta Marcucci — sits beside the famous Piazza delle Sorgenti in Bagno Vignoni. Three outdoor thermal pools are fed directly from the same volcanic aquifer that fills the ancient piazza pool.
The Marcucci Family
The Marcucci family arrived in the mid-19th century, initially running a small grocery shop that doubled as the local post office. Over generations they expanded into hospitality, and in the 1950s constructed the main hotel building on land that had been a vineyard. Then a stroke of fortune: when they began to dig behind the hotel, thermal water sprang up. Since the 1970s that water has fed the outdoor pools .
The Thermal Pools
Three outdoor pools set in a lush, tree-lined garden with direct views of the Rocca d’Orcia. Water emerges at 49°C from the volcanic aquifer below Monte Amiata, cooled to 35–38°C in the main pool and 28–32°C in the refreshing pool. On Friday and Saturday evenings from April to October, the pools stay open until 22:45 for Bathing Under the Stars — the lit fortress reflected in the pool water under a star-filled sky.
La Rocca Restaurant
The hotel’s restaurant serves Tuscan cuisine with views over the landscape toward the Rocca d’Orcia. The beloved Bar Verde has a vintage record player. Sommelier David pairs local wines with the kitchen’s seasonal menu.
