Puscina is the first flower farm in Tuscany — completely organic, family-run, perched on a hillside along the SS146 between Pienza and Montepulciano with views over the Val d’Orcia.
Three Sisters
The farm is run by sisters Laura and Teresa Cugusi, with a third sister Mara closely involved. The name comes from the ancient podere where they grew up — the childhood home built by their grandfather, who came to Tuscany from Sardinia. After studying and working across Italy in art and design, Laura and Teresa returned home in 2014, inspired by Vanessa Diffenbaugh’s novel The Language of Flowers and the American Floret Flower Farm.
Puscina is now a founding member of SlowFlowers Italy — the Italian equivalent of the Slow Food movement, applied to cut flowers.
The Farm
Over one hectare of flowers within a wider 50-hectare estate, growing more than 200 species and 400 varieties — all organic. The flowers are naturally grown and beautifully imperfect: “Every flower is beautiful because it is imperfect.”
In spring, the fields are full of tulips and daffodils. May brings the peak — peonies, poppies, cornflowers, roses. By late summer, dahlias, asters, and cosmos take over.
The Experience
You go into the garden and fields with clippers and freely harvest whatever is in bloom — whatever speaks to you. Then you return to the light-flooded studio to learn sustainable floral design and compose your own bouquet or centrepiece. Lunch is served al fresco under the trees.
