I’ve arrived in Bari! Jet lag is brutal as usual. First things I noticed coming from the US: I always notice how much of social life in Italy happens simply in the streets or squares. Yesterday was Easter so many families in the old part of town were barbecuing on the street, just right outside their doors. The sky is blue and the air smells like the sea 🌊

Walking around Bari Vecchia. No cars. I generally have pretty good sense of direction but I have to admit that I’m constantly getting lost in the old part of town 🤣. Bari Vecchia is a maze! narrow lanes, blind alleys, arches that lead nowhere and everywhere. They say it was built that way on purpose, to confuse invaders and pirates. It definitely works!

A few glimpses of Bari today. I almost got my wallet stolen by a pickpocket! Besides that it was a wonderful day.
Yummy deep-fried street food:
I love the idea of a shared public space — barbecue on the street!
Sausages!

Love the texture and color of this wall!

Fabulous dinner at the popular restaurant Al Pescatore. I had orecchiette with octopus ragù:

The love for clams run in the family ❤️
Night life in Bari Vecchia. I always think that growing old in places like this isn’t lonely because social life overflows onto the street.
